Hywel Taff Roberts
Roberts’ Painting began in the late 1970’s when I was a commercial fisherman, fishing in the North Atlantic and living in Newport, Rhode Island. While ashore I worked alongside decorators, craftsmen and tradesmen in the larger homes and mansions along Bellevue Avenue. I was fortunate to meet the interior decorator Richard Nelson, a neighbor in the Point area of Newport whose design shop “The Red Lion” was on Bellevue Avenue. I worked at Mr. Nelson’s home on Bridge Street and on many of his clients’ projects. Richard started his business working for the legendary Sister Parish in New York City, when she was employed at the White House during the Kennedy presidency. It was a great privilege to work for Richard and his clients, and I learned a great deal about professional decorating.
In 1990 I moved to Winona to be with my wife Anne Scott Plummer, who was hired as an art professor at Winona State University. For the past twenty years, now as Roberts’ Seven Seas Painting and Wallpapering, I have worked in homes and businesses in southeastern Minnesota from Winona to Rochester and La Crosse, Wisconsin.
My business is painting, wallpapering and guiding customers with their selection of color schemes and wallpapering ideas. I also remove wallpaper, install murals and do wood-graining. We use zero VOC paints where possible to ensure a healthful environment. I am often asked why I like the work that I do -I truly enjoy working with my clients, meeting new people and helping them solve their decorating needs.
